I have a special surprise for you!!! I am not going to tell you what it is, but just know... You are welcome!
I was planning to write a short post about surviving Grad Nites, but then Disneyland decided to surprise everyone and increase prices... AGAIN!
Fair warning... No pictures in this post... You will just have to use your imagination.
What do you want me to talk about first?
Price increase?
Grad Nites?
Price increase??
Grad Nites??
I hope you are yelling out your choice! I can do this all night!
Grad Nites?
Price increase?
Price increase???
Price increase it is!
So, less than a week before the next 24 Hour Day and the big Memorial Day weekend, Disneyland decided to suprise us with an increase in ticket pricing. Here is a quick run down... I will try to keep it succinct...
PRICES WENT UP! (Cut to black and white scenes of angry mobs with torches and pitchforks hunting down Frankenstein)
Here are some better details for the people who like to read or have not been near a television or radio for the past couple of days.
One Day One Park ticket went up $4 to $96 dollars. Four dollars... 4... dollars.
One Day Park Hopper went to $13 to $150. Less than seeing a movie.
More information on all the ticket increases can be found here.
Southern California Select Pass, 170 days open, went up $10 to $289... Two drinks at Starbucks... FOR THE YEAR!
Southern California Pass, new sales have been suspended(Huh? Oooooh! What?! Controversy!)
Deluxe Pass, 315 open park days, increased $20 to $519 a year. Still not terrible...
Premium Pass, 365 park days available and parking included, rose $30 to $699. WHAT?!?! Thirty dollars?!? That is ridiculous! Oh, wait, no blocked dates, free parking and increased discounts? I am still in. TOTALLY WORTH IT!
Almost forgot... parking went up a buck.
I, literally, had a million people come up to me today and ask me if I was mad about all this... Literally... a million... it happened, don't question it.
The short answer. I am not mad at all. It is still totally worth it! Have you been to Disneyland? It's great there! The increase is nominal in the long run. Look at it this way. If you go to the movies you are going to spend around twenty bucks for a hour and a half of entertainment. 8 hours of movies would cost you around a hundred bucks(I didn't do the math, I am just guessing. Feel free to do it for me...) You could easily spend 10 hours in one park and it would still only cost you a C-note. More bang for the buck! So, you could sit in a dark room, angry because the guy two rows ahead of you is texting, and watch Captain America, OR you could go to Disneyland and actually meet Captain America. Worth it!
If you are one of the many people who are so up in arms about the increase that you say, "That's it! I am never going to Disneyland again!" First, you are a liar. Second... Good! We don't want you there anyway! Third. YOU ARE A LIAR! You know you can't stay away.
Let's get to the suspension of new Southern California pass. Controversial? Maybe. Disney hasn't made an official announcement as to why they are doing it, but the most likely reason, in my opinion, is that they are using it as crowd control during the upcoming busy summer season. The SCP had most Sundays open for admission and by putting the kibosh on new sales they are effectively limiting the amount of pass holders who can enter the parks on an already crazy busy day.
All just conjecture... Seems plausible and sometimes I just like to hear the sound of my own voice... err, typing... If you know more about why they were suspended, leave a comment! Of you have your own crazy theory, *cough*Ross*cough* leave a comment!
Important to know that if you are a current Southern California pass holder you can renew at that level as long as you renew "on time."
Update: Disney said something to the effect of wanting to "preserve the customer experience" and stated that now all AP's are subject to availability.
I, too, would like to announce an increase in prices for reading my blog, you know, to preserve the reader experience and all... it will now cost 4x as much as it did yesterday(still totally worth it)... also, reading and not sharing or leaving a comment will now cost you a shaking fist and a dirty look from me. Be forewarned! Nope... be fivewarned, it's just that big!
GRAD NITES ARE HERE!!
When you read that, you had one of two reactions. 1) The need to high five someone or 2) Abject terror...
If you don't know what Grad Nite is... use common sense, context clues and/or Google to figure it out.
Ready for some quick tips on how to, not only survive Grad Nite, but thrive at Grad Nite??
If you are a high school graduate...
Congratulations! Enjoy the night because tomorrow... you're pregnant(Thanks Sam for the quote of last year). Also, don't be a dick...
If you are a guest in the parks those days...
* The grads have to be inside DCA by 10 o'clock and are essentially locked in. They spend most of the day time hours in Disneyland, so take your family to California Adventure during the day and you can avoid a BUNCH of high school kids.
* Remember that you were a high school graduate at one time and give them the benefit of the doubt... Oh shit! I may be presuming too much! I just figure my audience is sophisticated and all that crap...
* Stay positive
* If you find yourself in a crowd of kids, just yell out "2014!!!" and high five everyone you see. You will instantly become the coolest people in the park.
* Also... booze helps.
If you are a cast member working those days...
* Booze helps.
* Chamber of Commerce is closed, so the teens have no place to complain!
That's it for now!
Stay Dorky!

P.P.S. I am skipping the P.S. and just getting straight to the good stuff... The surprise I was talking about way back at the beginning? I am already working on another post! The fuck you say! That's right! New post! Drew K. posted on my Facebook, 50 Silly Things You Didn't Know About Disneyland or something like that... Let's see if they are true or bullshit OR a combination of both... trushit.
P.P.P.S. Also, a one day ticket at Magic Mountain is $67.99... close in price but not in quality...
P.P.P.P.S. UPDATE!! Disneyland also did away with the Blockout Ticket. If you have an Annual Pass and you want to go a day that your pass is blocked out you were able to buy a ticket at a discounted rate... But NOT ANY MORE CHUMPS!
